Social investment and responsibility

At Swartberg Biking we are passionate about the people and the environment within which we operate.  As a responsible motorcycle tour operator, we have a responsibility towards the environment and those who occupy it, as well as what happens within it.  We at Swartberg Biking are proud to inform you that we are a proud member of the H.O.P.E Foundation.  Being a member and committed sponsor of the foundation, Swartberg Biking has pledged to donate a contribution on behalf of every tour participant who rides with us.

Through this contribution we aspire to bring hope and rejuvenation in dealing with South Africa’s social and environmental challenges and find simple ways of doing so.  We face a plethora of environmental challenges in South Africa, and they are not unlike elsewhere in the world.  They are surmountable and we pledge to do our bit over and above the donation we have pledged, whether it is saving paper or recycling it - we believe every bit helps.

We are also committed to supporting those establishments who are part of this initiative and to ensure that we help those who are less fortunate.  We recently visited the Karatara Primary School to make a cash donation.  This visit generated an excitement among the pupils, the sound of the motorcycles thrilled the kids and school activities had to be put aside for a few minutes.  We shall continue to do so as long as we have support from the international motorcycle fraternity who chooses to visit South Africa and Namibia as part of their international travels.

Social Initiatives

The H.O.P.E Foundation currently supports diverse social and cultural initiatives. Our partnership with “Karos and Kambro” for example, focuses on the performing arts and encourages young and old to participate therein.  Our main focus however, is on the vulnerable youth and with our school programmes in the Oudtshoorn region (Voorbedacht Primary School) and Knysna surrounds (Karatara Primary School), we attend to the needs of these impoverished rural communities by ensuring them a brighter tomorrow.

Conservation Initiatives

Through a joint venture with Cape Nature Conservation the H.O.P.E Foundation will focus most of its conservation initiatives on projects within Cape Nature Reserves.  Having being awarded a 10 year concession to manage the iconic “Ou Tol” buildings (located on the Swartberg Pass) we are eager to commence our conservation programme to ensure that this World Heritage Site is enjoyed and appreciated by our current generation and preserved for future generations.
